Leah Crawford, Midwife
Hello! My name is Leah and I am thrilled to be a part of the team of dedicated Midwives and support staff at SGMT.
My inspiration to become a Midwife came from stories of my grandmother, who acted as a lay Midwife in the many communities she resided in along the coast of Hudson Bay in what is now known as the territory of Nunavut. I am originally from a small town in Northern Manitoba and am of Scottish, Irish, English and Inuk descent.
I graduated with honors from the Midwifery Education Program at Ryerson University in 2015, and received the Murray and Eleanor Enkin Graduation Excellence Award. I also hold a BA from the University of Manitoba majoring in Anthropology, with a minor in Native Studies.
It is a privilege to be part of such a momentous time in people's lives, and is humbling to bear witness to the unique path each person travels in being pregnant and giving birth. I strive to provide care that is holistically safe, and upholds individual choice and dignity. I believe that access to high quality healthcare is a right, and am committed to improving accessibility of pregnancy and birth care for people who have historically been overlooked by the healthcare system.
When I am not working as a midwife I enjoy reading, resting, being outdoors, and spending time with my family - especially my young daughter - who also enjoys all of my hobbies, except for resting.
